my JOURNEY | krista garrett
I studied music early in life and it was difficult. I had to practice more than the other students and felt inadequate because of talent comparisons I would put myself through with peers and those evaluations I was subjected to by teachers. The rigorous of comparison tore at my self-esteem and I left music behind.
As I earned my degree in psychology, I found myself drawn back to music. I would periodically work on compositions as the inspiration would strike me, but nothing serious. I would later continue my education to complete my Master’s in Developmental Psychology and incorporated music in my therapeutic interventions with children and adults. I am fascinated with the relationship music had with brain development/injury and development & recovery. Garrett Music Academy is the little engine that could and as a result, my mission is to serve all the “fighters” that have a desire to play music, regardless of their age, circumstances or ability. Our doors are open to all!
